Review: Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels #4) by Ilona Andrews
WHY DID I EVEN AGREE TO READ THIS???!! I’m so serious! I don’t know why! Why did I agree to read this when I knew, I KNEW, I KNEW that the next book wasn’t out and I’d have to wait for it? That could take years! I wanted to pace myself and look what happened – no pacing. I read it over two days. I tried slowing down but to no avail. I just had to know what would happen next. Now I’m done, I loved it, and there’s nothing more to read. Argh! This is why I don’t like series!!! Torture, sweet torture!
Can you tell I liked this one? Well, if not – I did like it. No wait – loved it! Hey, remember all those funny one-liners? Weren’t they so funny? Oh and the comebacks!! You know how I always am impressed by quick and witty comebacks? Well this one is chock full of them! Great gems like:
“The rabbis paled. I’d managed to terrify holy men. Maybe I could beat up a nun for an encore.”
Ahhhh, that Kate, she’s so funny!
And I liked the villain in this one. She was funny and brought a lot of funny to a book that could have been grim. She was crazy. He bad guys were something else, weren’t they. No really – they were something else.
Hear that? That’s the sound of my heartbeat going into overdrive. Ah, Curran! Yes! I really like the Beast Lord in this one. Boy was I so very pleased with Kate and Curran. What a good story to reinforce why it’s always better to talk it out and not assume. And that talking it out actually works! Who’da thunk?
Kate was still awesome and funny. She tried so hard to mature and be different. But she realized that didn’t work. Guess she figured out that we like her just the way she is, yes we do! I love it when they describe her smiles. I tried doing them myself but I don’t think I got the desired effect. My kids said it wasn’t a smile and that I wasn’t scary. They offered me better examples that I told them I liked. Between you and I, I wasn’t that impressed.
One of favorite, and perhaps the most hardcore scene out of the whole series is when Kate meets up with a certain pack member and his mate. She had me at kick! That was THE Best.Scene.Evar. Umm, does that mean somethings wrong with me? No doubts about how awesome Kate is after that!
And was that ending awesome, or what? *swoon* Say ‘or what’ and I’ll go Kate on you! Kidding, I wouldn’t unleash that kind of violence on you. About the book – yes, it’s violent and gritty and fun and romantic and it’s the best series!! I can’t wait for the next one. It did not end in a cliffhanger but I want to know what’s gonna happen! Is that so wrong??
Love,
Your faithful FanGurl
PS. Did you also miss what happened to Grendel? Also, what’s up with a certain person? You KNOW who I’m talking about. Just in case you’ve given this letter to someone else who hasn’t read it (why ever not??), I’ve left out the deets.
PPS. Saiman. I would say that I’d punch him but I know that Kate and Curran can handle themselves.
VERDICT: 4.5 out of 5

Hello, popping over from the comment train, I’m with you, I try hard not to read books I know are in a series if I’ve heard they’re great and I know I’m going to be hanging out to read the next one !
Came from the comment train!!
I hate when I read a series and the next book isn’t out! It’s the same way with tv shows! I can’t wait until the next season! Great review! Sounds like it really pulls you in!
Grendel lives! As for the person you are speaking of, I am not quite sure who it is…Why can I not guess? My brain is pretty frazzled I guess.
I loved your review! These books are very fun. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Someone told me the next book is called Magic Slays per the forums that exist for the books. On Ilona Andrews’ website, there is no title posted as of yet. Either way, I hope it comes out soon! (you had asked me about that on my review of the book and I think I forgot to answer you on my blog when I replied to your comment)
I’m definitely reading the On the Edge series in October. I enjoy their writing a lot. It’s fun and is a nice break from some of the more serious stuff I’ve read this year.
Thanks Carin!
Only after I reread it did I notice all the blatant typos. Oops! Oh, that certain person kind of desappeared after the showdown and was nowhere to be found… when Kate could have used a friend. Ring a bell, yet?
Let me know and I’ll give out more. I’m trying to avoid giving anything away, haha.
Magic Slays… woot! I cannot wait! I have Bayou Moon that I plan to read soon. I think I’ll like it. I can’t wait to see how you’ll like the series.
